Translation: Wheel or circle
What it is: In yogic philosophy, chakras are seven main energy centres along the spine. Each governs specific physical, emotional, and spiritual functions.
The seven chakras:
- Muladhara — Root, base of spine, stability
- Svadhisthana — Sacral, lower abdomen, creativity
- Manipura — Solar Plexus, stomach, confidence
- Anahata — Heart, chest, love and compassion
- Vishuddha — Throat, communication and truth
- Ajna — Third Eye, forehead, intuition
- Sahasrara — Crown, top of head, spiritual connection
In practice: Certain poses, breathing techniques, and meditations are believed to activate or balance specific chakras.
